What is Silage Wrap?

 

Silage wrap is a specialised film made primarily from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), along with colorants, UV stabilisers, and other auxiliary materials. It is designed for use in packaging, protection, and fodder ensiling, providing an essential outer barrier that protects the contents.

Why Use Silage Wrap?

• Excellent Tensile Strength: Silage wrap offers superior tensile strength and puncture resistance, ensuring durability during handling and storage.

• UV Stability: The wrap is UV stabilized, guaranteeing at least 12 months of protection from sunlight exposure without degradation.

• Anaerobic Environment: The wrap is impermeable to oxygen and water, creating an anaerobic environment that helps to reduce spoilage of the fodder.

• Cold Resistance: Soft and resistant to low temperatures, silage wrap maintains its integrity without becoming brittle or freezing.

• Efficiency: Minimises waste, and is easy to store, stack, transport, and recycle
   

Attention When Using Silage Wrap

1. Stretch Ratio: Do not overstretch the wrap; the recommended stretch ratio is 50%-70%.

2. Layer Coverage: Each new layer should cover 50% of the previous layer, with a minimum of three layers to ensure proper sealing.

3. Repair Breakages: Immediately seal any breaks in the wrap with tape to maintain the anaerobic environment.

4. Handling: Avoid rolling the wrapped package on the ground during transportation to prevent damage.

5. Storage Precautions: Keep the wrapped silage away from livestock and regularly check for rodent damage. Seal any damage immediately with tape.

6. Unused Film Storage: Store any unused silage film in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and mechanical damage.
